Christmas Card Idea and Decor

OK OK I know that this is Thanksgiving week, but I’m totally already in the Christmas spirit! I think it has something to do with the fact that this is our last Christmas with just Molly (and Owen of course) and we are moving at the end of the year so it will be our last Christmas in this house. Next year we’ll be in a new home and have a new little baby! It’s so crazy how much life changes!

Kevin and I have honestly never sent out Christmas cards. One, I haven’t been the best in the past at doing things ahead of time. I usually tend to be one of those last-minute people. But this year for Christmas I’m totally doing all my shopping in advance and trying to do things like Christmas cards in advance! So I think this might be our first year sending one out! And you guys know how much I love photography! I’m always capturing sweet moments with our family with my friend and photographer Ashley Burns to have as keepsakes for our entire lives.

So this year, I’m trying to figure out what would be a great holiday photo. Since this is Molly‘s last year as an only child I thought a picture of just her on a Christmas card would be really sweet. So I took a bunch of the home decor items I bought at Nordstrom and made this cute little set up to take photos of her. Nordstrom has the cutest home decor stuff. Especially Holiday decor! I actually bought a bunch of other stuff that I didn’t open yet because I want to save it for our new house!

  1. MOLLY’S PJ’S | 2. SANTA PILLOW | 3. ELF | 4. SNOW GARLAND | 5. SILVER TREE | 6. POM POM BLANKET

All I did was grab a throw blanket and pillow we have on our couch. The throw blanket is maybe the softest thing we own! I’ll definitely be cozying up with it on the couch all winter long! Ha! Who am I kidding, how often do I get to cozy up on the couch with a toddler running around? But for the little bit of time I get at the end of the night after she goes to bed it’s my go-to blanket. And the pillow is just the cutest! It says “Dear Santa, I can explain!” on one side and on the other side it says “Letters to Santa”. It’s just the cutest and I thought it was absolutely perfect for these photos! When I bought it, it was $30. But it’s 25% off right now and on sale for $22! That’s such a good price for such a cute Christmas decoration and the perfect prop for photos with your little one!

Molly is also at an age where she loves plush toys. So this little elf was just too cute to pass up. She loves going through all her plush toys and giving them snuggles. It might be the cutest thing ever!

I love the simplicity of the silver tree and the realism of the garland with snow on it. I posted a close-up picture of the garland at the end of this post so you can see all the detail. It’s so beautiful!

And finally, what would a Christmas photo be without Christmas PJs! I honestly think Molly looks like a little elf wearing them! I think these may be the one she wears Christmas morning! I’m excited for next year when I’ll be able to dress Molly and her little sibling alike for Christmas! In fact, I’m on the hunt for some cute family Christmas PJs right now! So let me know if you have any suggestions! A family photo of all of us in matching PJs would also be really cute for a Christmas card!

P.S. I am hysterically laughing at the photo below of me and Molly. Doesn’t it look like Molly’s little foot poking out from under my leg is actually my foot? But miniature size? I keep looking at it and bursting out laughing!

  1. Precious!!!! I love the idea of doing a photo shoot at home where they’re most comfortable and in pj’s. That will make for a smiley baby for pics for sure!! Getting them all dressed up to drive them somewhere and expecting them to smile perfectly for photos is asking a bit much. This is fabulous! Big fan of you guys…thanks for sharing your lives with us!

  2. Are you going to do a blog post on your new pregnancy info?! Anxiously awaiting to hear all about it – congrats!! 💕

It does look like you have a little foot! How cute! Unfortunately, the silver tree is sold out. I’ll have to look elsewhere. Cheryl

  4. So cute! Are you going to post about your pregnancy? I’m just nearing the end of my first trimester with my 2nd kiddo and I’m so so sick. My first is 15 months. Was wondering how you felt and if you have any advice for feeling better! So hard to take care of a 1 year old while feeling so miserable ☹️

  5. So adorable!! Molly is just the cutest!!

Last year we got these family pajamas ( http://amzn.to/2iAvQDH ). I was a bit skeptical before ordering, but they’re actually super soft and cozy and I loved the fact that our poochie could participate with the family PJs!

  6. Love the idea. Need to recreate this with my little guy.

Question. How you make her laugh so hard. With my son it’s a hit and a miss. Sometimes he laughs so hard on photos sometimes he is not having it.

  7. A great thing about a closer age difference is that it’s easier to get matching things because they are in the same size ranges for longer! For instance, GAP pjs go from 6-12 months all the way up through 5 years. We have 27 months between our daughter and son and my daughter loves wearing matching pjs with her little brother (he doesn’t care yet but is happy when his sister is happy, so win/win). We are teetering on the edge b/c she’s now in real girl sizes and he’s in toddler so come spring I will to find matching pajamas in both toddler and girl age groups.

    Congratulations on baby #2!!!

  8. I can’t wait for Mall your posts about my favorite time of the year!! Christmas!! Congratulations on your new angel. I feel it’s going to be a girl! Ha! Everything is going to be Fine❤Saludos desde Panamá!

  9. Such great pictures! Love Christmas time more than anything! From the looks of these pictures it looks like sweet little Molly loves it too!
