My Advice for Our New Bachelorette Rachel

First, I HAVE to share this video of what happens when I try to do a FB in our household. Ha! This crack me up…

Ok let’s talk about Rachel! I cannot believe that the Bachelorette is premiering this Monday! As we all know, this is a historic season of the show with Rachael being the first ever black Bachelorette! And don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to watch Rachael on her journey to find love for so many MORE reasons than the color of her skin. But I just feel that this was a long time coming and I’m so proud of Rachel for breaking the mold. What I find most heartwarming about the situation, is all the young black girls around the country that are now going to watch the show and see themselves in Rachael. She is such a kick butt woman and I truly believe that there is not a better person to show girls all around the country what a strong independent woman looks like! You go Rachel!

Before Rachel left, I actually reached out to her and gave her some advice. It was totally unsolicited and I told her to completely ignore it if she wanted to but she was very receptive and appreciated any advice she could get. I remember being in her shoes (and her shoes are pricey! ha!)and just feeling so overwhelmed with what I was about to experience. There’s no manual on how to date 25 guys at once on a TV show. So this is what I told Rachel:

1. Enjoy yourself. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed and to be so exhausted that you forget that this experience is supposed to be fun. When I was the Bachelorette, I really feel like I took the situation too seriously. In my mind, I was there to find a husband and that was it no fun and games. Because of this mentality, I found myself not having any fun.  But shouldn’t finding the love of your life BE FUN?!?! Plus I was always exhausted from all the dates and constant travel so I never truly enjoyed all the beautiful places we visited. I hope Rachael was able to grasp what a blessing it is for her to be in this position and truly appreciate and enjoy every moment. It’s my one big regret from the show is that I didn’t truly appreciate what I was going through and what was being done for me.

2. If you like a guy, forget about them. Ha! I gave the same advice to Jojo before she started her season. The reason I like this advice so much and give it to every Bachelorette, is because it’s so easy to lock your sights on one guy on the very first night and never give any of the other guys a second glance. I definitely did that on my season. I knew I liked two guys the very first night and never really opened my eyes or heart to any of the other guys. Would things have been different if I had? I don’t know. Maybe! I guess now I can say that maybe I’m glad I didn’t open my eyes to anybody else because now I’m happily married to the perfect person for me and we have a beautiful baby girl – so, life is as it should be. But still, I think anyone in the position of being the Bachelorette should just try to be as open minded as possible… with an open heart as well.

3. Sneak in a cell phone. Ha ha! If any of the Bachelor producers read this they’re probably rolling their eyes at me. But when you’re on the show you’re totally locked out from the outside world. You have no idea what’s going on in the news, you can’t keep in touch with family or friends, and you definitely can’t keep up with the Kardashian’s. Ha! I knew this going into my season of the Bachelorette, and I really didn’t want to be completely closed out from the outside world so I snuck in a cell phone. I barely got to use it because I was always so exhausted when I got home at the end of the night. And we only spent about two weeks in the United States before we traveled internationally and stupid me forgot to get an international cell phone plan. So I couldn’t even use the phone when we were traveling. My main producer on my season actually caught me with the phone when we were in Bora-Bora and threaten to take it away. I remember getting in a big fight with her telling her that it didn’t even work but just for the principle of it being mine I wasn’t gonna let them take it away for me. And this is true! It didn’t work at all so I couldn’t use it to call anybody but it was mine and I didn’t want them taking it from me. I remember crying and putting up a big fuss at the time. I laugh thinking about it now! I wonder if Rachael took my advice to sneak in a cell phone. And I really wonder if she got caught! I’ll have to ask her. Sorry Bachelor producers. Love you guys!!! 😉

So there you have it! That was my advice for our new Bachelorette! Not that she needed my advice but it’s always good to hear a few words from those who have been in your shoes before trying out any new experience. But I’m sure she’ll make it her own and I cannot wait to start watching her journey to find love this coming Monday! As I do every season, I will be live tweeting and posting instagram stories during the episodes and of course blogging about them on Tuesday’s right here on Ali Luvs! So make sure to come back every Tuesday morning (and throughout the week for my other posts) to read my recaps of the Bachelorette. Happy Bachelorette season guys!

I leave you with the prettiest “rose” dress that I ever did see! Cause well, this is my fashion blog 😉 xoxo

    1. I am so glad you found my blog!!!! And yes, back in the day I was the Bachelorette 😉 Almost 8 years ago now!

  1. You are so lovely! I’m sure she will take your advice to heart. Can’t wait to watch her season!

  2. Good for you Ali for sneaking in a phone! That would be so hard to be secluded from friends and family. I don’t plan on watching the Bachelorette this time just because I don’t like the way it was promoted. 🙁 It should matter what race you are to be the bachelorette or bachelor. Anyway…I love your blogs so I will definitely be following the season through you. 🙂

  3. Goodness I had no idea that the bachelor/bachelorette couldn’t have a cell phone.

Also, loved your live today. ❤️❤️❤️

  4. Your FB live was the real deal of what it’s like to be a new mommy! Thanks for being real!

  5. I am so happy for you that you found your true love and are a new mommy! The joy on your face shines through your pictures and videos. I’ve been a fan since you first appeared on the Bachelor, and have enjoyed following you since then. You were my favorite Bachelorette! You gave great advice to Rachael, and I’m so excited to watch her season! I would have to sneak in my phone too for sure. I can hardly go an hour without it, let alone 10 weeks.

Wishing you lots of happiness and success <3

  16. Ali you had me cracking up over that video. I’m 36 weeks preggo with my first little girl and feeling pretty rough today and it was nice to laugh and think about the future! I showed my husband the video and even he got so excited for our future and the “chaos” ahead when he comes home from work!

  20. Hey Ali, Random but can you tell us where you got your living room rugs? They are a great neutral and look like they have held up well with both dog and baby. Thanks!

  21. You giving Rachael advice after your two failures on Bach & Bach’ette??? Really?????Hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

        1. Poor Leila…back to drunk commenting again. I feel bad for you. I will give you totally unsolicited advice too. Instead of leaving childish comments on Ali’s blog, perhaps you should work on your jealousy and insecurities (and your drinking problem).
