RED, WHITE, and (Almost) DUE!

Happy Independence Day everyone! First I want to thank all the men and women who serve our country! Your sacrifice is immense and greatly appreciate. Thank you for all that you do, today and everyday!

July 4th is a special day for me and Kevin. Of course because we are celebrating our country’s independence! But also for one very personal reason. Last year on July 4th Kevin and I decided that we wanted to have a baby. We were lounging in our pool (we had just bought our first home together the month before) and talking about life. I remember bringing it up to him. I can’t remember exactly what I said but it was something along the lines of “I’m so happy. I love our life together and I think I’m ready to have a baby with you.” I remember being totally shocked when Kevin said “I’m ready too. Let’s makes a baby!” I don’t know why I was so shocked. Maybe it was because we had never talked about it before. But I was over the moon happy when he told me he was on the same page. So on that day, one year ago today, we decided we would create a life. We did however agree that we both wanted to have one last “hurrah” and wait a couple months before trying to get pregnant by really living it up over the summer. I think we lasted about 30 days for our “last hurrah” and were in bed at 8pm every single night that month. Ha! We didn’t need a couple months, we were ready and we started trying.

Earlier in the day on July 4th 2015, we actually tried to invite some friends over last minute but everyone had something going on either with family or with their own little babies at home. We thought “This stinks. We have this great new house with a pool and no one can come over for a pool party/BBQ?!” So Kevin and I realized that day that our lives had changed. We were growing up and so were our friends. Our priorities were changing and that was a really good thing. Not that we wont have plenty of pool parties as adults with children, we plan to have many!  But that’s not really what this day is about – not even close. As a young adult you don’t really realize this. At least I didn’t. My July 4th was a bust if I didn’t have some huge party to go to. Well now I’m happy to say that I celebrate the REAL meaning behind the holiday. The sacrifices men and women make to keep us safe in this great country of ours. Sacrifices that are going to allow my daughter to grow up in place where she is free to make her own choices and create her own life. For that, I am truly grateful.

I can’t believe that one year after Kevin and I made the choice to bring a life into this world, we are only days away from meeting our little girl. Life is good. We are truly grateful.
