I’ll Totally Start Working Out…Tomorrrow

I am really struggling to find the motivation to work out these days. Anyone else with me? I’d rather walk on hot coals than step foot in a gym so that is just NOT an option for me (I’m sooo not a gym person). I do enjoy hot yoga, but it’s been SO hot in LA lately and I’m finding if hard to step into a heated room when it’s 100 degrees outside – heck I’m finding it hard to leave my house! So when I saw this shirt, I had to buy it because it sums up perfectly how I feel. It say’s “TOMORROW: A Mythical land where are your motivation, dreams and goals live.” HA! I’m hoping that every time I wear this shirt, it will give me the motivation to start my “tomorrow plans,” TODAY!

1) TOMORROW SHIRT   2) SHORTS   3) $20 WATCH   4) HAIR STYLING TOOL

So, what did I do today? I woke up early and went on a hike with my girlfriend Ashley. It’s not a boot camp class by any means, but it’s a start! I find it is SO much easier to work out when you have a buddy to do it with you.

Another thing I’ve always done to boost motivation, is I tell myself that I just need to put on my yoga clothes and drive to the yoga studio. That’s it. Not a ton of effort right? Right! Then if I get to class and decide I don’t want to do it, I can leave. But WHY would I do that? I always end up staying for the class. But by breaking up my BIG TASK of a whole workout (Getting ready, driving there, taking the class) into smaller, more manageable tasks that require less effort, it makes it seem more manageable my head. It’s almost like I’m tricking myself into getting there and once I’m there, I’m going to workout. What do you guys do to motivate yourself? Let’s discuss in the comments below. I need suggestions!!!

  1. I am the same way…. Always say tomorrow! Then I have the hardest time getting there. I always think of any kind of reason to get out of it!

  2. I’m finding that working out at home is the best way. Look up Kayla Itsines work outs. They are quick but very effective. It’s the only program I’ve wanted to stick with

  3. What motivates me is when I look in my closet and see lots of cute things that I may be able to still get into but I’m not completely happy with how they look on me. I’d rather wait until I get back to my target weight and the bonus is I’ll have plenty of cute clothes on hand?

  4. I plan tomorrow’s workout (at least tentatively so I don’t waste time figuring it all out in the morning), lay out everything I’ll need, and sleep in my workout clothes the night before. This way, when I wake up I’m all set to go for a run or head to the gym! I’m already working out before I’ve even thought twice about it (or really fully woken up!). Then it’s done early and I feel energized, happy, and ready to take on the day!

  5. I work out at 6 am 3-4 days a week at the Y…and my motivation is that the friends I have there have become like family and I know they’ve set up for me and expect me to be there! I also love fitnessblender.com. It’s a free website with lots of great workouts, some as short as 10 minutes. You can save your favorites if you want…I like trying new ones when I just have 15-20 minutes.

  6. I keep a picture of how I want to look taped to my mirror so it is a constant reminder to make healthier choices throughout the day. Also, I signed up for RLhealthy.com email newsletters which sends me daily workouts, blog posts, and inspiration. It’s free and something I see every single day! Since signing up for the newsletters I haven’t missed a day of exercise in 4 weeks 🙂

  7. I’m loving all these suggestions!

Laura – I LOVE that you sleep in your workout clothes. Genius!!!

Sara- Seriously impressive that you get up that early to workout 3-4 times a week!

Megan – Visual inspiration sounds like a good way to motivate 🙂

  8. I LOVE working out but only because I LOVE my gym! Check out Orangetheory Fitness if you have one! It is great interval training led by a trainer and I love it because every time you get a killer work out and you don’t even have to think because they tell you everything to do! Each class is one hour (only 4% of a day, we can all make time for that!) AND working out releases endorphins, endorphins make you happy, and happy people just don’t go kill their husbands! (name that movie 🙂 ) but most of all I work out because I know it makes me healthy on the inside. Even if I don’t always lose weight or look like a skinny minny model, I know I am doing good for my blood, bones, and body!

  9. Ali! I feel you girl!! I did just start a new supplement program…I’m sure you’ve heard of it…but it is awesome. I actually feel like I’ve rested when I wake up!! jamibaker23.Le-Vel.com check it out! Good luck!!

  10. I love working out! But I just do it at home 🙂 Much better than actually going to the gym! And I have gotten better results this way too!
